One of Stephen King's best

The Drawing of the Three really picks up the pace after the Gunslinger. While the book starts within a few hours of the end of the previous book, you can tell in just the first few pages that this one is going to be different. The tone is much less surreal and disorienting than The Gunslinger, it's much easier to grasp what's going on and feel more involved with the story. There's a significant course correction right away and then the book gets into the interconnectedness of worlds that is probably my favorite theme of the series.
I think the best part about this book is the establishment of some amazing characters. We get a better sense of Roland's personality as he interacts with new people and faces some challenges he can't just solve with his guns. Eddie Dean is possibly my favorite Stephen King protagonist, he's a great multi-faceted character who is genuinely likable and interesting to read. His journey in this book is just fantastic. Odetta's story is fascinating and totally unique. Reading this book a second time I was so happy to re-meet some of my favorite characters and know this is just the beginning of their story.
This book has many memorable moments that stand out in the series. The Dark Tower as a whole is Stephen King's greatest work, but this book stands up against some of his other classics on its own. It will leave you wanting more and the best part is that the 3rd book is just as good as the 2nd.

This Book is not for children or the easily offended

This is the 2ND novel in the dark tower series and now that I have completed it I am excited to read the waste lands. in comparison to the first novel in the series The Gunslinger I believe this book is much better. the first novel felt more like reading a legend rather than a novel but it is definitely important if you actually want to read the series just get through it and you will be rewarded. this book takes place immediately after the ending of the first book and it follows the last gunslinger Roland on his quest to the dark tower. Roland and the people he meets in this novel are deeply flawed characters but that's what makes this book amazing. due to the fantasy aspects of this book it can be somewhat hard to follow at times but as you get deeper and deeper into the worlds these characters inhabit you will get sucked into the black hole I call the Dark tower. just a word of caution this novel can be crude. racist, and vulgar all at the same time for most of the novel but it is on purpose because it drives the story forward. I know that sounds wrong but overlook it if you want a new series to jump into and your not easily offended take a gander at the dark tower

I am hooked and the Gunslinger is not alone!

Kudos to Mr. King. Book two shines and delights. You will be transported in space and time. Yes, you will be confused but so are the characters in the book. They are not sure what is happening. They are not sure where they are or even when they are. You will continue on a trip in time and space with the main characters added in book two...or I suppose they are. I am currently in book three and throughly enjoyed reading this Drawing of the three.
King does a wonderful job of painting the picture. You can see the times and places.... you will not understand the times and places but that is of little import because you are looking through the door from your time and place and the characters will snatch you. They are real, of high quality and quantity. By that I mean that the characters are given life by the author.
Warning. You will be hooked after book two and forced into buying the rest. You have been warned.
